Cincinnati Reds Claim Speedy Former Top Prospect Off Waivers

The Cincinnati Reds have been active in the offseason, making significant roster moves to bolster their squad.

One notable acquisition is outfielder Bubba Thompson, whom they claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Royals.

Thompson, known for his impressive speed and defensive skills, had a mixed performance record in 2023, posting a .259/.338/.395 batting line in Triple-A.

However, his struggles at the major league level are evident, with a career batting line of .242/.286/.305 and just one home run in 241 plate appearances.

Despite this, the Reds have the option to send him to the minors to continue refining his game.

Across 92 games in the MLB, the 25-year-old has stolen 22 stolen bases and 28 runs scored.

Thompson is a former first-round pick (26th overall) by the Texas Rangers in the 2017 MLB Draft.
