5 Cincinnati Reds Players Elect Free Agency

Several players from the Cincinnati Reds organization have decided to enter free agency at the end of the 2023 regular season.

Michael Mariot, a 34-year-old reliever, made the move after spending most of the 2023 season in Triple-A Louisville, where he struggled with a 6.49 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP over 51.1 innings.

Despite limited major league appearances, Mariot is now seeking better opportunities.

In contrast, infielder Matt Reynolds, aged 32, is also pursuing free agency.

Despite having only five plate appearances in the majors in 2023, Reynolds displayed his hitting prowess with an impressive .865 OPS, along with 22 home runs and 90 RBIs during his 115 games in Triple-A Louisville.

As winter approaches, Reynolds hopes to secure a fresh start with a different baseball organization.

Alejo Lopez, after just one MLB appearance in 2023, has also opted for free agency.

In Triple-A Louisville, he showcased his skills with a .292/.401/.408 slash line and 43 RBIs over 556 plate appearances, making him an attractive prospect for potential suitors.
