Diamondbacks Pitcher Slapped With 80 Game Suspension

Talk about a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Arizona Diamondbacks prospect right-hander Jose Cabrera had just tossed his first no-hit outing (five innings) in professional ball, then the next day learned he'd been slapped with an 80-game suspension for a failed drug test.

Cabrera tested positive for the performance-enhancing substance boldenone, "an androgen and anabolic steroid medication which is used in veterinary medicine, mainly in horses."

The day before had the best start of his career for the High-A Hillsboro Tops.

The 21-year-old right-hander was in his third season in the Arizona organization, and was 4-9 with a 5.28 ERA in 23 starts this year in Class A.

He was signed by the D-Backs to a minor-league contract on Sept. 24, 2021.

Cabrera now becomes the 13th minor leaguer suspended for PEDs this year.
