Detroit Tigers Place Veteran Pitcher On Waivers

The Detroit Tigers have undertaken a notable roster adjustment by designating the experienced reliever, Chasen Shreve, for assignment.

This strategic move has been made in order to create an opening in the team's bullpen, facilitating the return of Will Vest from the 15-day injured list.

Evan Petzold's report from the Detroit Free-Press on Twitter has unveiled that Shreve successfully navigated through the waiver process without being claimed by any other baseball franchise.

This development presents Shreve with a couple of distinct paths for his future. He possesses the option to decline an outright assignment to the minor leagues, thus transitioning into a free agent status.

Alternatively, the Tigers retain the choice to release him, ultimately leading to his free agency.

Since May, Shreve has been solid, compiling a 3.77 ERA, with 34 strikeouts across 31 innings and 36 appearances.

Given these possibilities, it's highly probable that Shreve will seize this opportunity to explore prospects with other teams, as he embarks on the next chapter of his baseball career.

At 33 years old, and armed with his expertise as a left-handed reliever, Shreve will likely seek a new team where he can contribute effectively for the remainder of the 2023 season. Photo Credit:  Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports
