Detroit Tigers Claim Pitcher Off Waivers From Brewers

The Detroit Tigers have recently secured left-handed pitcher Bennett Sousa via a waiver claim from the Milwaukee Brewers.

This transaction represents Sousa's fourth move among baseball organizations in the current season.

Despite his potential, Sousa's major league experience remains limited, with a mere 2.2 relief innings pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers this year, resulting in four earned runs allowed on five hits, accompanied by two walks and two strikeouts.

Over the past two seasons, encompassing his time with the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago White Sox, the 28-year-old southpaw has faced challenges, conceding a total of 24 runs (23 earned) on 30 hits, which includes four home runs.

His performance entails a 12:14 K:BB ratio across 23 innings of relief.

As the baseball season inches towards its conclusion, Sousa is poised to bolster the Detroit Tigers' bullpen depth, anticipated to join the Triple-A Toledo team for the time being.

With a potential debut in September, the Tigers are hopeful that Sousa's contribution will enhance their relief options in the final stages of the season. Photo Credit: Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports
