Chicago Cubs Officially Release Veteran Catcher

The Chicago Cubs have been one of, if not the hottest teams in baseball since the All-Star break, pushing them into the final Wild Card spot in the National League, but now, they've officially made a very surprising move.

On Saturday, the team designated veteran catcher Tucker Barnhart for assignment, and on Monday, it was confirmed that he has now been released, and will hit the free agent market, ready to sign for any new team immediately.

In 44 games this year, the 32-year old has hit .202 with 1 home run and 9 RBI's, while also making some appearances on the mound, and now, he's hitting the market with the opportunity to join up with a playoff team for the remainder of the year.
