New York Mets Place Pitcher On Waivers After Brief Stint With Team

The New York Mets have decided to designate right-handed pitcher Denyi Reyes for assignment, allowing them to bring up outfielder DJ Stewart to the major league team.

Reyes, a 26-year-old righty, has struggled this season, posting a high 6.97 ERA in Triple-A.

Despite making six appearances for the Mets this year, including one start, he has been unable to find consistent success. Nevertheless, with an option remaining, Reyes has the potential to be traded or cleared through waivers within a week's time.

The Mets are hoping that the addition of DJ Stewart will provide a boost to their outfield depth as they continue their season.

For his minor-league career, where he's spent the majority of his professional career, Reyes holds a decent 3.53 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, with 562 strikeouts across 637.2 innings and 140 appearances. Photo Credit: Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
