Oakland Athletics Claim Pitcher Off Waivers From Padres

The Oakland Athletics recently made a move to bolster their roster by claiming right-handed pitcher Angel Felipe off waivers from the San Diego Padres.

Felipe, known for his powerful arm but also his past control issues, joins the Athletics as they continue their rebuilding efforts.

While Felipe has yet to make his MLB debut and has faced challenges with his command in Triple-A this season, the Athletics see potential in his impressive repertoire. He possesses a blazing fastball that can reach triple digits and shows promise with his secondary pitches.

Although Felipe has had a rough patch in 2023, sporting a 6.20 ERA and 1.82 WHIP while playing for Triple-A El Paso, it's important to note his achievements in 2022.

During that time, he showcased his abilities with impressive stats, including 14 saves and 84 strikeouts over 62 innings in the minors.

This indicates that he has the potential to regain his form and make a positive impact for the Athletics in the latter half of the 2023 season.

The Athletics recognize that Felipe's high strikeout rates and ability to induce ground balls make him an intriguing addition to their bullpen.

They have the luxury of time to allow him to develop further, as he still has an option year remaining beyond this season. With patience and guidance, the Athletics hope that Felipe can refine his command and contribute effectively to their pitching staff in the future. Photo Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports
