MLB Rumors: 2 Shortstops Linked To Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still the Los Angeles Dodgers this season—once again the team to beat in the NL West, and with the best record in the National League at 28-16. And they're doing it all with a gaping hole at shortstop.

They still haven't filled the void left by Trea Turner, as they sit dead-last in MLB in batting average from the position at .191, and 26th with a .627 OPS.

Two possible shortstop trade candidates have recently been linked to the Dodgers, and either one would be a massive improvement on Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor.

Tim Anderson, Chicago White Sox

The South Siders are still nowhere in sight when it comes to the playoff chase, and if this keeps up, it's only a matter of time before the sell-off begins.

Anderson is a two-time All-Star, a perennial .300 hitter and a team leader. Sounds like he'd fit right into that Dodgers lineup. He has a club option for next season at $14M, but said before the season that he'd be interested in signing an extension with the Pale Hose. That, however, was before everything came crashing down this season.

MLB Insider Robert Murray said on his podcast this week, "he's a really good fit for the Dodgers. They need a shortstop."

Willy Adames, Milwaukee Brewers

Here's a name that's been rumored to be on the trade block for a while. He'd also be a great fit in L.A., but as Murray pointed out, the Brewers, currently in 1st place in the NL Central, might not be ready to do another "Josh Hader thing" as they did last season, and trade a key player out of that clubhouse while they're in contention. The Hader trade torpedoed the Brew Crew's season in 2022.

Adames provides a ton of power, but has trouble making contact, and this season is hitting just .210 with a .682 OPS. But he has driven in 24. Last year, he slugged a career-high 31 homers with 98 RBIs.

Both of these potential trade candidates would come at a high price, but the Dodgers have the assets to give it a try.
