Washington Nationals Sign Former Top Prospect Outfielder

Headed to Washington.

The Washington Nationals have signed outfielder Nomar Mazara to a minor league contract.

This marks his sixth team change in his career.

Mazara participated in spring training with the Baltimore Orioles but was released in late March.

The Nationals offer a favorable opportunity for Mazara to return to the MLB scene, as he may have a good chance of earning a semi-regular role. Mazara had a decent performance with the San Diego Padres in 2022, hitting .264 with two home runs and 18 RBIs in 55 games.

Despite this, his 2016-2019 stretch with the Texas Rangers, where he hit 79 home runs and had 308 RBIs across 537 games suggests his potential, which made him a former top prospect.

Since then, he has struggled with injuries and hit only six home runs with a .235 batting average. Mazara is expected to report to Triple-A Rochester and will have a chance to showcase his skills and improve his performance.

It will be interesting to see how he fares and whether he can earn a call-up to the Nationals later in the season. Photo Credit: Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports
