St. Louis Cardinals Sign All-Star Pitcher to Extension

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Miles Mikolas to a two-year, $40 million contract extension.

This is a very good payday for Mikolas, and it ultimately makes sense that he has earned it. After all, he is coming off of an All-Star campaign that saw him sport a 12-13 record, 3.29 ERA, and 153 strikeouts in 33 appearances. As a result, it makes sense that the Cardinals wanted to keep him around, and they have done just that.

The Cardinals' rotation is not the strongest in the league, so that also likely heightened the Cardinals' interest in keeping him around. Now, one of the St. Louis' top pitchers will remain a Cardinal for two more seasons after this one.

Over the course of his seven-year career, Mikolas has a 45-40 record and 3.70 ERA. With that, he is a two-time All-Star. Let's see how he builds upon these numbers from here following this extension.
