Seattle Mariners Sign Speedy Veteran Outfielder

The Seattle Mariners have signed outfielder Delino DeShields to a minor-league contract.

DeShields, a 30-year-old speedster, spent the 2022 season with the Triple-A Gwinnett team in the Atlanta Braves' system, where he hit .220 with a homer, 61 runs, 26 RBI, and 35 stolen bases.

He has not played in the majors since his stint with the Cincinnati Reds in 2021.

DeShields offers potential as a pinch-running specialist for a contending team, and his speed could be an asset for the Mariners later in the season. However, he will likely begin the 2023 season in the minor leagues.

Entering his eighth major league season, DeShields holds a .246/.327/.342 triple-slash line, with 19 home runs, 139 RBIs, 111 stolen bases and 302 runs scored across 601 games, played with the Texas Rangers and the Reds.
