Pittsburgh Pirates: Top Prospect To Watch In 2023

Endy Rodriguez, the catching prospect for the Pittsburgh Pirates, is one of the most exciting young players to watch this season.

Endy Rodriguez was acquired by the Pirates as part of a three-team deal in 2021. The Pirates traded Joe Musgrove to the San Diego Padres, who then traded David Bednar to the Pirates along with Rodriguez and several other players from the New York Mets.

After winning the organization's Minor League Player of the Year award in 2021, Rodriguez has continued to impress with his versatile skills and consistent offensive performance during Spring Training.

While expected to begin the season in Triple-A, Rodriguez's impressive performance in Spring Training has brought attention to his potential as a valuable asset for the Pirates. His ability to play multiple positions and his baseball IQ have caught the eye of his teammates and coaches alike.

As the Pirates strive to compete in the coming seasons, Rodriguez's rapid progression could make him a quick study at the Major League level.

Last season, the 22-year old rose three levels of the minors, finishing the year in Triple-A. Overall, he posted a fantastic .323/.407/.590 triple-slash line, with 25 home runs, 95 RBIs, four stolen bases, and 92 runs scored across 125 games.

Projection models are optimistic about his potential impact, with some predicting him to be one of the best catchers in the game as a rookie. His strong offensive abilities, combined with his versatility and defensive skills, make him a promising addition to the Pirates' young core.

While it remains to be seen when Rodriguez will make his Major League debut, he has already demonstrated his readiness to contribute to the team's success.

Along with fellow prospect Henry Davis, Rodriguez is a name to watch in the coming seasons as the Pirates strive to build a competitive team.
