Chicago Cubs Top Prospect Pitcher Wins Rotation Spot

Chicago Cubs top prospect pitcher Hayden Wesneski has been named as the fifth starter for the Chicago Cubs.

He competed against Adrian Sampson for the final position in the rotation and impressed the coaching staff with his performance during spring training.

Over 12 innings, Wesneski allowed only six runs (four earned) and 13 hits while striking out 22.

This is not the first time Wesneski has showcased his talent. He had a successful stint with the Cubs last season after coming over from the New York Yankees, recording a 2.18 ERA and striking out 33 batters in 33 innings.

Although the opening is only temporary due to Kyle Hendricks' expected return in May, Wesneski's outstanding performance may allow him to secure a starting role by then.

It is worth noting that Wesneski has limited experience at the major league level, with only four starts under his belt.

Nevertheless, his impressive stats from last season and his strong showing in spring training suggest that he has the potential to be a valuable addition to the Cubs' rotation. Photo Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports
