Baltimore Orioles Designate Pitcher For Assignment

The Baltimore Orioles have designated Andrew Politi for assignment.

Politi is a right-handed pitcher who was selected by the Orioles from the Boston Red Sox in the Rule 5 draft.

His performance during Grapefruit League play was lackluster, with a 6.23 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 8.2 innings. As a result, the Orioles have decided to place him on waivers, where he is expected to go unclaimed.

If he does clear waivers, he will be offered back to the Red Sox.

Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reported on Monday that Politi had been designated for assignment, and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the Red Sox organization or be claimed by another team.

For his minor-league career, the 26-year-old has compiled a 4.14 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, with 311 strikeouts across 252 innings and 125 appearances. Photo Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports
