Top Remaining Free Agent Starting Pitchers

For teams in need of a rotation arm, there are plenty of good options left in the free agency.

The top three remaining free-agent starting pitchers:

  • RHP Michael Wacha
Wacha enjoyed one of the best seasons of his 10-year career last season, recording a 3.32 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 104 strikeouts over 127.1 innings and 23 starts. He's reportedly seeking a two-year, $30 million contract. The thirty-one-year-old would be a quality addition to any rotation and was recently linked to the Minnesota Twins and the Baltimore Orioles before the two teams acquired starting pitching (Pablo Lopez and Cole Irvin).

  • RHP Trevor Bauer
Yes, he's a controversial name. However, Trevor Bauer is a fantastic baseball pitcher and can be had for the MLB minimum salary ($720,000) after being released by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The last time he appeared in the majors, in 2021, Bauer posted a 2.59 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 137 strikeouts over 107.2 innings and 17 starts. Perhaps, a non-contending team will sign him and attempt to flip him at the trade deadline for assets.

  • RHP Chad Kuhl
Kuhl is coming off a rough season with the Colorado Rockies, which saw him register a 5.72 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts over 137 innings and 27 starts. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 4.00+ ERA in each of them. However, perhaps a change of scenery would be beneficial to the thirty-year-old. Kuhl could function as a fifth starter or even a long reliever. He's an interesting gamble for a team looking for a reclamation project, just look at what the Los Angeles Dodgers did with Tyler Anderson last season.
