Top Remaining Free Agent Shortstops

With the start of the 2023 season looming, there still remain some capable shortstops in the free-agent pool.

There are still some teams who could definitely benefit from another capable defender and decent bat, possibly the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost their starting shortstop for the season in Gavin Lux.

Here are top remaining free-agent shortstops:

  • Jose Iglesias

Iglesias is an impressive defender and a very capable bat, emphasized by his .292/.325/.408 triple-slash line, 26 home runs, 178 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and 191 runs scored over 440 games across the last four season. The thirty-three-year-old is entering his 12th major league season and can still add value to a team.

  • Andrelton Simmons

Simmons is also a fantastic defender, having won four Gold Glove Awards over his 11-year career in the majors. He is also fairly capable on offense, although faltering in recent years, posting a respectable .263/.312/.366/ triple-slash line, 70 home runs, 444 RBIs, 72 stolen bases and 501 runs scored across 1,225 games in his career. The thirty-three-year-old has received MVP votes in three of his 11 seasons.

  • Didi Gregorius

Gregorius is well past his prime and likely won't land more than a minor-league deal or a reserve role at this point in his career. Over the last four seasons, the thirty-three-year-old holds a poor .232/.284/.401 triple-slash line, 40 home runs, 174 RBIs, nine stolen bases and 133 runs scored over 308 games. The veteran left-handed bat is entering his 12th major-league season.
