San Diego Padres Sign Left-Handed Pitcher

He was non-tendered by the Oakland Athletics in November.

The San Diego Padres have signed pitcher Jared Koenig to a minor-league contract.

Koenig made his major-league debut last season, recording an underwhelming 5.72 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, with 22 strikeouts over 39.1 innings of work with the Athletics. He made five starts and five relief appearances.

The twenty-nine-year-old holds a 3.94 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, with 204 strikeouts across 228.1 innings of work in the minors.

Koenig has spent a lot of his career in independent ball and at already twenty-nine years old, it's hard to say how much major league success is in his future.

He is a former 35th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in the 2014 MLB Draft.
