Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Capable Right-Handed Reliever

An interesting signing by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates have signed pitcher Juan Minaya to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.

Minaya made just six relief appearances for the Minnesota Twins last season, allowing six earned runs over 9.2 innings of work.

However, from 2018-21, Minaya posted a strong 3.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, with 128 strikeouts over 114.1 innings and 103 relief appearances, split between the Chicago White Sox and the Twins.

The thirty-two-year-old gives the Pirates some quality relief depth heading into the 2023 season.

There's a good chance he makes the Opening Day roster.
