Philadelphia Phillies Sign Veteran Catcher

Adding some more catching depth.

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed catcher Aramis Garcia to a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.

With the Phillies already rostering J.T. Realmuto and Garrett Stubbs, and seemingly locked into their roles as No. 1 and 2, Garcia will likely begin the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The thirty-year-old spent the 2022 season with the Cincinnati Reds, posting a .213/.248/.259 triple-slash line, with one home run, four RBIs and six runs scored over 47 games played.

Garcia has experience behind the plate and at first base, so it's a sensible addition by the Phillies.

For his major-league career, spanning four seasons, Garcia holds a .216/.253/.332 triple-slash line, with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 27 runs scored across 116 games.
