New York Mets Claim Pitcher Off Waivers

Joining the New York Mets.

The Mets have claimed pitcher Sam Coonrod off of waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Coonrod was designated for assignment last week by the Phillies to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Josh Harrison.

For his major-league career, spanning 97.1 innings, the thirty-year-old holds 5.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 95 strikeouts over. He's started two games and made 103 relief appearances.

His minor-league career has gone much better, as Coonrod has compiled a 3.77 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 406 strikeouts across 444.1 innings of work.

He's spent time with the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies.

He'll add bullpen depth for the Mets.
