Michael Wacha Has Interest From NL Contender

Michael Wacha, after going 11-2 last season with the Boston Red Sox, is the last remaining solid starter on the free agent market. He now has a new suitor for his services.

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Tribune, the San Diego Padres have "checked in" with Wacha. In fact, they've had contact with his agent.

The 31 year old had a 3.32 ERA over 127.1 innings for the Red Sox in 2022. Why he hasn't signed anywhere as of yet is largely considered to be due to his one-time asking price this offseason, which was reported to be in the range of  $30 million for a two-year deal.

The word, according to Acee, is that his price is “getting more realistic.”

His performance for the BoSox last season was his best showing in four years, as he'd been beset by injuries and poor performance from 2018 through 2021.

Wacha spent the first seven years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, and a was a solid member of their rotation, including an All-Star season in 2015. Now he's looking for one more good payday.
