Manny Machado & San Diego Padres Come to HUGE Agreement

The on-again, off-again saga of Will Manny Machado Opt Out?, or Will the San Diego Padres Extend Him? has finally come to an end, as the Friars have handed out yet another massive, decade-plus-long contract to keep Machado in San Diego for the rest of his career.

It's an 11-year, $350M contract extension for the 30-year-old, which will keep him in town until age-41. He had threatened to opt out of his current contract, which had five years and $150M left to run, at the end of the season. Instead, he more than doubles that commitment from the Padres.

Taking into account the original contract that began in 2019 and today's contract extension, the Padres will have signed up with Machado for 15 years and $470M in total.

There are no opt-outs and a full no-trade clause in the new 11-year deal.

In his four seasons with the Padres, Machado has batted .280 with a .352 on-base and .855 OPS. He's also been remarkably durable, playing at least 150 games in each of the three full seasons, and all 60 games in the shortened 2020 year. In the last two seasons, he's averaged 30 HR and 104 RBIs with an .858 OPS.

The Padres also have Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts signed to 10-year-plus deals.
