Boston Red Sox' Offseason Signing Expected To Bat Leadoff

His role has been tentatively decided.

According to Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora, Masataka Yoshida is likely to bat leadoff to start the season.

Cora also said that he planned to split up the left-handed hitting Yoshida and Rafael Devers in the batting order, which could move Devers to the three spot.

Yoshida's reported on-base skills in Japan make him a good fit for the top of the Red Sox' lineup and it looks like Cora is going to test it out.

Over seven seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, Yoshida slashed a remarkable .327/.421/.539, with 133 home runs, 467 RBIs, 21 stolen bases and 418 runs scored over 762 games played.

Who will bat second in between Yoshida and Devers still has yet to be decided, but Kike Hernandez is a strong candidate.
