Arizona Diamondbacks Sign Pitcher

Joining the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks have signed pitcher Michel Otanez to a minor-league contract.

Otanez has spent the last seven seasons in the New York Mets' organization.

Last season, split between Double-A Binghampton and Triple-A Syracuse, the twenty-five-year-old posted a 4.84 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts across 44.2 innings of work. He made 45 relief appearances, converted eight saves and held a 4-2 record.

Otanez has impressive velocity on his fastball, reaching triple-digits routinely. Unfortunately, his command issues are something he is still working on.

For his minor-league career, Otanez holds a 4.84 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 240 strikeouts over 204.2 innings.

He'll add some pitching depth to the D-Backs' organization.
