Texas Rangers Sign Catcher

The Texas Rangers have a new catcher, as they have signed Ryan Gold to a minor league contract.

Gold spent this past season with Double-A New Hampshire, where he had 10 home runs, 29 RBIs, and a .214 batting average in 59 total games. Overall, it was a year of mixed results for him at the plate. Although he had decent power numbers, he struggled to hit for contact. The latter is something that he will be aiming to improve upon with the Rangers organization from here.

Following the signing, Gold was assigned to Double-A by the Rangers. However, if he impresses during the year, it certainly is possible that he could receive some promotions during it. Time will tell if that does in fact end up coming to fruition from here. Either way, Texas has another option behind the plate.
