Seattle Mariners Outright Starting Pitcher

He went unclaimed on waivers.

As a result, the Seattle Mariners have sent pitcher Justus Sheffield outright to Triple-A Tacoma.

Sheffield was designated for assignment a week ago, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will now enter spring training as a non-roster invitee.

The twenty-six-year-old southpaw spent most of last season in Triple-A Tacoma, where he posted a 6.99 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and 86 strikeouts over 103 innings of work. He made 24 starts and held a 6-8 record.

Sheffield only made six appearances in the majors, recording a 3.86 ERA over 11.2 innings.

He's a former first-round pick by the Cleveland Indians in the 2014 MLB Draft.

Sheffield will function as upper minor-league depth.
