San Diego Padres Sign Pitcher; Posted 2.61 ERA From 2020-2021

The San Diego Padres add to their depth.

The Padres have signed pitcher Domingo Tapia to a minor-league contract.

Tapia spent last season with the Oakland Athletics where he posted a brutal 8.47 ERA over 11 appearances and 17 innings. He had a much better time in the minors, recording a sparkling 2.02 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 31 strikeouts over 35.2 innings of work. He made 32 relief appearances and converted four saves.

The thirty-one-year-old enjoyed two nice seasons before joining the A's last year, registering a strong 2.61 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, with 30 strikeouts across 38 innings of work, split between the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals.

Overall, Tapia's had more success than not in the major leagues, and the Padres are hoping they can bring back that success from just over a year ago.

This could turn out to be an underrated signing by the Padres.
