Oakland Athletics Release Reliable Reliever

Well, this is a bit of a surprise.

Oakland Athletics pitcher Tyler Cyr passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated last week by the team and has now been released.

Rather than being sent outright, the Athletics have granted Cyr his release and the opportunity to latch on with another team.

Cyr posted a strong 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 13.1 innings of work last season after being claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

He spent the rest of the season in the minors, recording a 2.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts across 41 innings of work. He made 39 relief appearances and held a 2-3 record.

There should be plenty of interested teams in the twenty-nine-year-old.

Cyr holds a solid 2.97 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP and 334 strikeouts over 281.2 innings of work in the minors.
