MLB Rumors: St. Louis Cardinals Shopping SS

After being an All-Star in 2019, Paul DeJong looked like he was emerging as a long-term core member of the Cardinals. Yet, he has cooled off noticeably since then, and the Cardinals are now hoping to trade him because of it.

DeJong's 2022 season was a nightmare for him, as he had a disastrous .157 batting average in 77 games. As a result, he is heading into the new year with the hope that he can bounce back. That remains the case whether he is still a Cardinal on Opening Day or elsewhere.

When noting that DeJong can be a very productive power hitter while playing at his best, there could be a team willing to take a shot on him if the Cardinals retain salary. Alas, we will need to wait and see if the shortstop finds a new home from here.
