MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox Linked to Veteran SS

After losing Xander Bogaerts to the San Diego Padres through free agency, the Boston Red Sox are on the hunt for a new shortstop. This only heightened when it was announced that Trevor Story had surgery, so there is a big hole at the position. As a result, there are reports that the Red Sox are making a push to sign veteran shortstop Andrelton Simmons.

Simmons is heading into the 2023 season with the hope of having a bounce-back season. The 2022 campaign was a disastrous one for the veteran, as he had zero home runs, seven RBIs, and a .173 batting average in 34 games with the Chicago Cubs before being let go. Yet, now he will be hoping for a fresh start and the chance to show that he can still be a productive major league.

We will have to wait and see if Boston's interest in Simmons results in them bringing him in from here.
