Former Athletics Infielder Signs With Philadelphia Phillies

Another addition by the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies have signed infielder Vimael Machin to a minor-league contract.

Machin was removed from the Oakland Athletics' 40-man roster earlier this offseason and decided to test the free agent market rather than accept an outright assignment. His decision paid off, as he has now landed a deal with the Phillies.

Last season, over 73 games with the A's, Machin slashed .220/.300/.287, with one home run, 13 RBIs, one stolen base and 26 runs scored.

The twenty-nine-year-old is really a defensive depth addition, as he doesn't contribute much in terms of offense.
