Cubs Talented Reliever Begins Throwing Program; Underwent Tommy John Last Year

His rookie season was cut short.

Chicago Cubs pitcher Ethan Roberts has begun a throwing program.

Roberts is still recovering after he underwent Tommy John reconstructive surgery last June.

The twenty-five-year-old made the Cubs' Opening Day roster last spring, but allowed seven earned runs over his first 7.2 innings before going down with injury.

The right-handed pitcher has potential, however, as indicated by his career 3.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 139 strikeouts over 128.1 innings of work in the minors. He's made 95 relief appearances and converted 17 saves, so he has experience as a high-leverage arm if needed.

Roberts likely won't be available for the Cubs until the second half of the season, but it is good to see that his recovery is going smoothly.

He is a former fourth-round pick by the Cubs in the 2018 MLB Draft.
