Chicago Cubs Place Pitcher On Waivers

To the waiver wire.

The Chicago Cubs have designated pitcher Mark Leiter for assignment.

Leiter functioned as a utility pitcher for the Cubs last season and has been removed from the team's 40-man roster to make room for first baseman Eric Hosmer.

The thirty-one-year-old posted a decent 3.99 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts across 67.2 innings of work last year. He made 31 relief appearances, started four games, converted three saves and held a 2-7 record.

Leiter has made 82 appearances over his three-year career and could attract some interest on the waiver wire.

He is a former 22nd-round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2013 MLB Draft.
