Baltimore Orioles Infielder Goes Unclaimed On Waivers; Sent Outright

He can finally rest.

Infielder Lewin Diaz went unclaimed on waivers and, as a result, the Baltimore Orioles have sent him outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

This was the fifth time that Diaz has been designated for assignment since November 15.

The twenty-six-year-old has spent time with the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates this offseason, but will now remain with the Orioles as added infield depth in their upper minors.

In 58 games last season with the Miami Marlins, Diaz slashed a poor .169/.224/.288 line, with five home runs, 11 RBIs, one stolen base and 12 runs scored.

He fared better in the minors, however, posting a .252/.323/.815 triple-slash line, with 19 home runs, 64 RBIs and 55 runs scored over 325 at-bats.
