SIGNED: Top Remaining Free Agent Infielder Comes Off The Market

The Miami Marlins have made their first big free agent acquisition of the offseason, nabbing the top available infielder still on the market, Jean Segura.

It's a 2-year, $17M deal for the former Philadelphia Phillies infielder. According to reports, the 2B/SS will  start at third base for the Marlins, per beat reporter Kevin Barral. Segura has played just 24 games at third base in his career, having started 399 games at 2B and 911 at SS.

Other options at SS and 3B on the squad include Joey Wendle and top prospect Jordan Groshans. There have been rumors of a possible Wendle trade this offseason, so perhaps that could be the team's next move.

The 32-year-old Segura hit .277 this past season, with a .336 OBP and a .723 OPS. He had 10 HR, and 33 RBIs. He had a very solid fWAR of 5.1.

He's a two-time All-Star (2013, 2018), and has a lifetime OPS+ of 100, exactly average.
