MLB Rumors: Pittsburgh Pirates Linked to Veteran Catcher

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to sign a catcher, as Tucker Barnhart is on their radar, according to Jason Mackey.

Barnhart spent this past season with the Detroit Tigers after spending the previous eight years with the Cincinnati Reds. Overall, it was a fairly down year for Barnhart, as he had one home run, 16 RBIs, and a low .221 batting average. Although he struggled at the plate, his fielding was still quite solid, so it makes sense that Pittsburgh wants to sign him.

The Pirates certainly need to improve their catching, and Barnhart would be their clear starter if signed. That could be enough for the veteran to be open to going to the rebuilding squad, but time will tell what happens on that front.
