MLB Rumors: Latest On Dansby Swanson Is Not Promising For Atlanta Braves Fans

MLB Insider Jon Heyman has relayed a rumor that does not bode well for Atlanta Braves fans in regards to their All-Star shortstop Dansby Swanson.

According to Heyman, the Swanson camp's last counteroffer to the Braves was for a long-term $140M contract—the same amount that fellow shortstops Trevor Story and Javier Baez got last winter from the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers, respectively. But Heyman says the Braves have not agreed to that number. Pessimism is now the order of the day in the ATL.

Just last week, Braves beat writer for The Athletic, David O'Brien also noted that "he probably priced himself out of Atlanta with the season he had."

The Atlanta-area native now may have to take his talents elsewhere, and there are no shortage of suitors.

MLB Insider Jon Morosi figures it's the Chicago Cubs who have the edge on all comers. "If Dansby Swanson is going to leave his hometown... the Cubs are a very appealing place for a couple of reasons: Number one, their GM, Carter Hawkins, is like Swanson, a Vanderbilt alum. So there's a connection there, Swanson knows the GM of the team... Also, Dansby's fiancee, Mallory Pugh is a World Cup-winning soccer player for the US Women's National Team and the Chicago Red Stars."

Swanson was projected to be able to command a free agent deal in the 7-year, $150M range. At this point, at least, the Braves are not in agreeance.
