Miami Marlins Sign Infielder

The Miami Marlins have signed Joe Rizzo to a minor league contract.

Rizzo is an intriguing prospect who is coming off of a strong season with Double-A Arkansas. In 118 games, he had 21 home runs, 69 RBIs, and a .277 batting average. After a year like this, it is fair to argue that he should be able to compete for a spot in Triple-A to start the season. Yet, given the fact that he is just 24 years old, it's clear that he has upside and could compete for a spot in the majors later down the road.

Overall, this is a good low-risk, high-reward kind of signing. At worst, the Marlins have simply added a prospect to their depth, but let's see if Rizzo can become more than that.
