Cubs Designate First Baseman For Assignment

With the Chicago Cubs adding pitcher Anthony Kay, they needed to make room on the 40-man roster.

As a result, the Cubs have designated first baseman Alfonso Rivas for assignment.

Rivas finally got an extended look in the majors this past season, unfortunately for him, he only managed to record a .235/.322/.307 triple-slash line, with three home runs, 25 RBIs, six stolen bases and 27 runs scored across 101 games played.

The twenty-six-year-old offers very little power, and with poor defensive value, it's more than likely that he clears waivers.
