MLB Rumors: Padres Pitcher Finished in San Diego

According to Kevin Acee, the San Diego Padres are unlikely to re-sign Pierce Johnson.

Johnson was limited to only 15 appearances this season with the Padres due to elbow tendinitis. When he was able to take the mound, he struggled this campaign, as he had a 1-2 record to go along with a 5.02 ERA. Due to all of this, it ultimately makes sense for the Padres to move on from Johnson. Now, he will be hoping to find a new home from here.

Given Johnson's past success, it seems likely that he should be able to land himself a deal for the season. Keep in mind, he had a 3.22 ERA in 63 games in 2021, so he certainly has the potential to be a reliable reliever. Regardless, his time with the Padres is over. Let's see where he ends up from here.
