Miami Marlins Decline Infielder's Option

The Miami Marlins have declined their mutual option with Joey Wendle. However, he will remain with the Marlins, as he is still under team control with arbitration rights.

However, one has to wonder if this could mean that the Marlins will move Wendle. He was set to make $6.3 million had his option been accepted, so he wouldn’t have been too expensive. With that, there would certainly be interest him, so perhaps the Marlins will look to take advantage of his trade value to help improve their roster elsewhere.

After being an All-Star with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021, Wendle had three home runs and a .259 batting average with the Marlins this season. Although he did not dominate, he should get interest if made available. If not traded, expect to see him brought back to the Marlins at a cheaper price.
