Injury Update On Tigers Talented Young Starter

He had a fantastic start to his season in 2022, before falling off down the stretch due to arm fatigue.

Detroit Tigers starter Tarik Skubal is reportedly focusing on forearm and grip strength, but has yet to begin throwing again.

Skubal took a big step forward this past season, posting a solid 3.52 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 117 strikeouts over 117.2 innings of work. From the start of the season to June 12, Skubal was electric, registering a 2.71 ERA, with 75 strikeouts over 69.2 innings. After that, however, he started to decline which is likely part of the arm injuries he was dealing with.

Thankfully, Skubal did not have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Instead, he underwent flexor tendon surgery on August 17 and, while he will still not be ready for the start of the 2023 season, the recovery timeline is not as lengthy as Tommy John.
