Houston Astros Sign All-Star First Baseman

According to Bob Nightengale, the Houston Astros are finalizing a deal to sign Jose Abreu.

With the Astros letting both Yuli Gurriel and Trey Mancini hit free agency, they were in need of a new first baseman. Now, they have landed an excellent one in Abreu, as the 35-year-old will provide them with much more pop in their lineup.

The 2022 season was another strong one for Abreu, as he had 15 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a .304 batting average. Although his power numbers were a bit down, he still hit quite well for contact. However, now that he is with Houston, it will be intriguing to see if he can get back to the 30-home run plateau. It seems possible, as he has done it five times over his nine-year career.

Overall, the reigning World Series champs have made another big splash. Let's see how the three-time All-Star performs for them from here.
