Houston Astros Infielder Becomes Free Agent

Trey Mancini is now a free agent, as his $10 million mutual option with the Houston Astros has not been picked up.

Mancini will get plenty of interest on the open market. Although he struggled after being traded to the Astros, his strong resume will lead to offers. In 143 games split between the Baltimore Orioles and Houston this season, he had 18 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .239 batting average. With the 'Stros, however, he had a low .176 batting average in 51 games.

Sometimes a change of scenery mid-season can negatively impact a player, and that's likely what happened with Mancini. Still, expect a bounce-back year from him in 2023, as he's a fighter and excellent when at his best. Let's see where he ends up from here.
