Cardinals Sign Former Top Prospect

The St. Louis Cardinals are signing the former top prospect.

The Cardinals have signed outfielder Oscar Mercado to a minor-league contract.

Mercado returns to the Cardinals organization, the team that drafted him in the second-round of the 2013 MLB Draft.

Just a few seasons ago, Mercado was one of the most intriguing prospects in the game after slashing .269/.318/.443, with 15 home runs, 54 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and 70 runs scored over his 115 games in his rookie season.

Unfortunately, the twenty-seven-year-old has not come close to replicating or improving upon those numbers, as he holds a .200/.258/.330 slash line, with 11 home runs, 41 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and 50 runs scored over the last three seasons and 163 games.

He'll add to the Cardinals' outfield depth.
