Padres Announce WCS Game 2 Starter

Manager Bob Melvin and the San Diego Padres have made a decision on who will start Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series for them.

It will be Blake Snell getting the ball Saturday night against the New York Mets.

Snell missed the first bit of the regular season with an injury, but was solid upon his return, posting a 3.38 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 171 strikeouts over 128 innings. In 24 starts, he held an 8-10 record.

Snell is familiar with the Mets this season, having faced them twice already in the regular season. In the first start on June 6, Snell was lit up for five runs, four unearned, seven hits, three walks, and four strikeouts over four innings. The Padres lost the game 11-5.

In his second start against the Mets, on July 23, the twenty-nine-year-old threw five shutout innings, allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five. The Padres won the game 2-1.

With Yu Darvish and Snell starting Games 1 and 2, that leaves Joe Musgrove to get the start in Game 3.
