Marlins Down To 4 Finalists For Manager; Former Mets Manager Gets 2nd Interview

Now that his 2022 job has run its course with the elimination of the New York Yankees, their third base coach Luis Rojas can concentrate on winning himself another job as a manager in the big leagues.

Rojas managed the New York Mets in 2020 and 2021, compiling a total record of 103-119.

He gets his second interview with the Marlins, putting him on a short list to contend for the job. This would make Rojas the "mystery man" that MLB Insider Jon Heyman is referring to, in listing the finalists for the Miami gig:

The other three finalists are said to be Skip Schumaker, Joe Espada, and Matt Quatraro. Heyman says they will make a decision soon.

Schumaker is the St. Louis Cardinals bench coach, Espada is currently the Houston Astros bench coach and has interviewed for seven managerial openings in recent years, while Quatraro has been Tampa Bay's bench coach since 2018. He is also being considered for the Kansas City Royals' job.

Don Mattingly stepped down as Marlins manager at the end of the season after seven years on the job.

Whoever does win the job will take over a roster that features one of the best young pitching staffs in the game, headed up by potential Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara.
