Mariners Outright Pitcher

The Seattle Mariners designated him for assignment last Friday.

Now, Phillips Valdez has passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with the Mariners' organization.
The Mariners needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brian O'Keefe to join the major league club on Friday and it looked like Valdez was the odd-man out.

The thirty-year-old has pitched to a 4.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts over 16 innings this season in the majors. In 13 relief appearances, he posted an 0-1 record.

In the minors this season, Valdez posted a decent 3.69 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and 35 strikeouts across 39 innings of work. He made 31 relief appearances, one start, and held a 2-1 record there this season.
