Gold Glove Award Finalists Announced

Rawlings has announced the finalists for all positions of Gold Glove awards, and Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees are tied for the most finalists, with five per team, while the Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals have four players up for five different positions, while the Cleveland Guardians have four finalists as well.

A new wrinkle this year is that utility players get their own award for the first time. DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees, Whit Merrifield, who split his season between the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays, and Luis Rengifo of the Los Angeles Angels will vie for it in the American League, while two St. Louis Cardinals are up for the NL award, rookie Brendan Donovan and Tommy Edman, along with the Arizona Diamonbacks' Daulton Varsho.

It's Varsho that has two chances at a Gold Glove, as he's also up for the outfield in the NL, along with teammates Alek Thomas and David Peralta, as well as 1B Christian Walker.

Tommy Edman also finds himself with two shots at an award, listed at utility and 2B.

The other four Yankees on the list include OF Andrew Benintendi, 1B Anthony Rizzo, catcher Jose Trevino and pitcher Jameson Taillon.

For the Blue Jays, Vlad Guerrero Jr. gets his first nomination at 1B, and joins teammates Merrifield, Matt Chapman (3B), Jackie Bradley Jr. (OF), and Jose Berrios (P).

Here are the full list of nominees, per mlb.com.
